about the bookbinder

Mary Ellen began her career in the arts. Then she developed a love of bookbinding in the 1990s while working under a seasoned hand-bookbinder in California. He learned the trade through an apprenticeship under a Swiss bookbinder. Mary Ellen was honored to receive training during her term of apprenticeship, learning the artistry of this timeless tradition of hand bookbinding and book restoration.

Eventually Mary Ellen managed the workshop where new books were custom designed and well-loved books were carefully restored.

With over 27 years of experience in hand bookbinding and book & Bible restoration, she is delighted to share this art with those whose books are in need of repair and to create custom journals for those who love to write, sketch or to give as gifts.
